I love to travel. There’s nothing I enjoy more than exploring new places, particularly sunny ones, and that feeling of getting off the plane and feeling that temperate heat hit you is one that will never get old. Whether it’s a whirlwind weekend away or two weeks travelling from place to place, I always enjoy getting away and immersing myself in somewhere new. And aside from a passport, a battered suitcase and sunscreen, every young traveller also has one of these: a travel bucket list.
I’m lucky enough to have ticked off more than a few places already (Rome, Egypt, Paris, Australia, New York, to name a few) but my list is far from complete. In six weeks time, I’ll have added Poland and Thailand to the places I’ve been and fingers crossed I can add a few more by the end of the year. This list is far from complete and is likely to change with the wind, however these are the places I’m currently gazing at in wanderlust and would love to visit at least a couple of this year.
Cities, countries, World Heritage sites and more, welcome to my travel bucket list!
The whitewashed buildings of Santorini just look staggeringly beautiful. I love Greece and Greek food, and the people are so lovely, so this is definitely top of the bucket list. Greece was one of the first places I visited outside of the UK many years ago, and I fell in love with it immediately and have loved visiting the islands since. The beaches look stunning and the sunsets are picturesque.
My parents have been to Venice and adored it, and ever since they came home talking about it I’ve wanted to go. I love everything about Italy, and visiting these lagoon islands just sounds magical. Top of the list of things to see in Venice would be the Piazza San Marco, Saint Marc’s Basilica and the Rialto Bridge. I’ll maybe have to get over my fear of boats before visiting, however!
I’ve always wanted to visit Angkor Wat, a temple complex in Cambodia. It looks so beautiful and surrounded by so much ancient and religious history and culture. The food looks amazing and the scenery so tranquil and beautiful. This is definitely a highlight of my bucket list.
Rio de Janeiro
Rio looks like incredible fun. With stunning beaches, beautiful forestry, architecture, and carnivals and festivals galore there’s something truly for everyone. The Sugarloaf Mountain trip would be a truly fantastic experience, and seeing the statue of Christ the Redeemer is definitely on my list as well.
This just looks like heaven on earth. We looked at going to the Maldives for our honeymoon before settling on Thailand, but I absolutely have to visit these islands at some point in this lifetime. Blue skies, azure waters and exotic marine life plus more sunshine than you can ask for? Sign me up.
I’ve never been to Germany at all, and I’ve always wanted to go to Munich. It looks like a fascinating city, full of culture and history and architecture – I’m a museum fiend and the Deutsches Museum is one of the oldest and largest science museums in the world, plus I really want to give German beer a try! Oktoberfest, I’ve got my eye on you!
Hiking the Everest Base Camp route is pretty high up on my list of things to do before I croak it. I have a weird obsession with Everest, have seen all the films and read all the books I can get my hands on about it, and even catching a glimpse of the mountain would be an unforgettable experience. Nepal sounds like a fascinating country from what I’ve heard from friends who have been, so this is definitely one to watch.
Probably the only chilly place on my list. I’m desperate to see the Northern Lights, stay in a glass-topped igloo, and relax in one of the many hot springs and geothermal spas. The scenery looks picturesque and like something out of a fairytale, and I’ve heard that the food and drink are exceptional.
I couldn’t get through a travel bucket list without mentioning at least two places in Italy, my favourite country in the entire world. Tuscany looks so picturesque and peaceful, and I can imagine nothing better than watching the sunset over the vineyards with a glass of wine in hand. I’d also love to visit Florence and to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
